Summary: Perform accounts payable functions in a manner consistent with MHA practices and fiscally sound accounting principles. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This is not an exhaustive task list, and other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate or necessary by the supervisor or program director.   • Prepare and maintain MHA’s accounts payable records by allocating expenses to cost centers, preparing expense vouchers, petty cash, mileage, expense reimbursements, check requests, agency bills, and Antelope Valley expense account and entering and reconciling data on the computer, printing and/or otherwise generating checks, obtaining check signatures and mailing or delivering checks to vendors and other similar accounting tasks
  • Maintain all vendors in compliance with IRS requirements and collection of W-9 forms
  • Responsible for the maintenance of vendor files, answer inquiries in the matter related to Accounts Payable. And assist in maintaining department business machines
  • As directed by supervisor, may cross-train in other functional accounting areas in order to provide occasional back up to other accounting operational areas
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and other aspects of the day-to-day operations and community life of the worksite
  • Work cooperatively with other staff to assure the smooth and seamless delivery of comprehensive accounting and administrative services to the Agency and its member.
  • In the absence of money management bookkeeper may become the back up person to cover the duties as needed
  • Maintain all records and documentation in accordance with MHA standards, funding source requirements and general accepted accounting procedures.

Position requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a general bookkeeper, senior accounting clerk or similar.
  • Knowledge or experience with MAS 90 accounting system.
  • Proficient at 10 key operation.
  • Knowledge or experience with fund accounting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and experienced working with automated spreadsheet, databases and computer-based general accounting systems.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented, and able to prioritize and juggle multiple projects without losing productivity
  • Must function well in a team-oriented approach.
  • Driving with current class C driver’s license, a vehicle for transportation, proof of valid automobile insurance, the ability to be ensured by MHA liability insurance are conditions of employment.
  • Flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • TB clearance and yearly retesting is a condition of employment.
